Now we wait. If the pilot for the new Syfy series Caprica is any indication, the rest of the series should be amazing. Whether it will succeed with audiences is open to conjecture. If you’ve never watched any bit of Ronald D. Moore’s re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series you’ve basically missed the best TV show in the last decade, if not twenty years.

Caprica was released this past Tuesday. I had pre-ordered it the week before and received on the day of its release. Having watched the other night I have to 2010 is too far away. This looks like it will be a great series. It tells the story of the beginning of the Cylons. Daniel Graystone, the Steve Jobs and Al Gore of Caprica discovers that his daughter has hacked into the Holoband, sorta like an adult-themed Internet and uploaded an avatar of herself constructed from every piece of information stored in every database on Caprica. Graystone’s daughter, Zoe, was killed in a terrorist attack, and he decides to try and download her avatar into the form of a prototype Cylon robot he’s developing for the Caprican Defense Department. That’s where the metaphysical fun begins.

"Lacy, it’s me, Zoe, and I think I’m gonna need your help!" —Zoe Graystone, originally uploaded by Computer Science Geek.
